K & N Filters

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone knows if the K&N air filter will harm the Mass Air Flow Sensor on the 8.1 engine? The only thing I have heard was if too much oil is used it might harm it.

Thanks in advance

I don't think so but since you've mention it.....that's a good question . If some of that excessive oil gets on that filament it will damage the sensor. There's a new dry high flow filter on the market now.....forgot the name. Think its dryflo or something something to do with the word "dry".

the k&n air filters are ok just don't overoil them when you clean them and reoil them which is only suppose to be like every 50k or so. I have had them in my 2 trucks and all my freinds use them.

Thanks Guys for the info. I might try and look for that "Dry" high air flow filter, or if I get the K&N, make sure I don't over oil it at 50k.

I think more air flow will help towing my 5th wheel.

I tried one of the Airhog cleanable filters from Fram and it seems to work very well and it is dry. Granted, it is no K & N. But it does have much better flow than a paper filter and since it is a cotton fiber material, it is washable.

You might want to check some of the scientific test results for air filters. K&N usually flows the best, the converse of which is that they filter the least.

FYI. Ralph.

they really don't make enough of a difference to spend 50 dollars on one IMO

the only real difference it seemed to make in my truck, is when you floor it, you can really hear that 'waaaaaaah' engine sound when it opens up

Well.. you all got me thinking some more,( which can be dangerous). I'm pulling about 13000 lbs. with that 8.1 and it really does do a good job. I just thought couldn't be anything wrong with just a little bit more power without opening the exhust, chippn it, headers etc. first of all that all cost money.

It does make sense that if i'm flowing more air I'm probably getting more dirt too. frank
