2000 silverado V6 heater housing

I bought this truck used and found that some previous owner/person had completely destroyed the working of the heater and air conditoner housing.
Doors don't work, no heat, etc. Fan blows great but no air out any vents anywhere.

I have bought a used complete assembly. It has the core, evaporator, etc. It was in the flood in New Orleans so the electronics will have to be changed. But question is: Does the dash have to be removed to remove and install the "good" one? I was told by a mechanic at the electric co-op that it wouldn't being a Chevy. If it was a Dodge it would. Any comments? Cold weather coming Thursday and I'll need heat.

not sure, but they are a pain in the butt to get to with the dash on. i can remove the glove box on my gmc to get to the blower but haven't tried removing the whole system.

Yeh the entire dash has to come out even just to replace the heater or evaporator core. I have only done one and its no fun.

Thanks, kinda what I'd heard here and there too. Decided not to tackle it and took it to a garage. They are going to do it and replace heater core during the reinstall. Isn't going to be to cheap. Labor book says 6.8 hours. Roughly 350 bucks parts and labor.
