2000 silverado V6 heater housing I bought this truck used and found that some previous owner/person had completely destroyed the working of the heater and air conditoner housing. Doors don't work, no heat, etc. Fan blows great but no air out any vents anywhere. I have bought a used complete assembly. It has the core, evaporator, etc. It was in the flood in New Orleans so the electronics will have to be changed. But question is: Does the dash have to be removed to remove and install the "good" one? I was told by a mechanic at the electric co-op that it wouldn't being a Chevy. If it was a Dodge it would. Any comments? Cold weather coming Thursday and I'll need heat.

Yeh the entire dash has to come out even just to replace the heater or evaporator core. I have only done one and its no fun.

Thanks, kinda what I'd heard here and there too. Decided not to tackle it and took it to a garage. They are going to do it and replace heater core during the reinstall. Isn't going to be to cheap. Labor book says 6.8 hours. Roughly 350 bucks parts and labor.
