In-tank Sending Unit Removal Question.

I have a '91 2wd silverado and I am tryingg to replace the fuel pump. For starters, I've got the tank on the ground under the truck and I can't figure out how to get the sending unit out. It seems that if there is a lock ring holding it in I can't get it to spin lose. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's been a while since I have done one but i'm pretty sure you can take a punch and a small hammer and tap on the tabs to get it to pop off. Should spin counterclockwise.

It's like what mrjohnwayne said and when you're done with the repair. I recommend spraying one of those "can" undercoat spray on top of it - seals everything nicely.

Fuel pump

Here is some bad news. I have a 99 1500 Silverado. Fuel pump went bad in January, replaced it again two weeks ago, (chevy has an updated model now) this pump lasted two weeks. Goes back to the shop on tuesday to get another replacement. Not a good day in GM town. The new pump had a mechanical whine at all times...........................

Problem solved. Got the pump out and replaced on Sunday with the help of my dad and brother. Drove like a champ today.

A buddy of mine removes the bed instead of removing the tank he says it's easyer or should I say he unbolts the bed and moves it back enough to access the fuel pump.
