Question Cruise control troubleshooting

I have a 1990 C1500 with a cruise control problem. It does absolutely nothing! What part is most likely to fail? I'd say the switch? What is the best approach on troubleshooting my problem?

could also be a vacum problem. mine coincidently went out while it was at the shop to have the actuater for the 4x4 replaced.

Mine doesn't do anything, no dash light, nothing! I took the cover off of the CC actuator module(?) and it looked good and undamaged, wiring looked good, but I didn't notice any vacuum lines. Would this shut down the whole system?

I don't think it has a indicator light for 1990. If there isn't any obvious problems like leaking vacuum, blown fuse or broken wire then the problem probably lies in the switch that sets the speed.

Does the brake light switch serve more of a purpose than just energizing your brake lights?

I believe there are 4 wires coming off the column for the cruise control. With the key on look for one to be hot. If not look for problem towards fuse / conv center. If got one, hit on for cruise and there should be a second hot. if not = bad switch. If now 2 hots there, check brake pedal switch for hot from there. Really two sw there and on older a vac sw. Get right sw sholud be easy to see which is which. Lots of those switches went bad and was recall for some years. If good and you have a clutch check same thing there. If all that is good, you have problems with controller, or ecm info, etc. Not common.

And where you been for 8 months ? LOL
