1997 Chevy PU problem leak into heater fan

Hello,

Have a 1997 Chevy Cheyanne Pick-up truck. Having a problem with water (not anti freeze) leaking from outside into the heater fan. This water freezes during winter at times causing fan to become frozen. Later resulting in only high speed fan to work.

Suspect water leaking from outside by wiper area, but not certain. A local garage suggested it could be a seam on heater. At a loss at this point and would like some suggestions. Will be grateful for any information.

Has anyone had this problem before?
Thanks
Anne

The water is comming from the cowl area just under the plastic piece between the hood and the winshield. My 97 filled up with water when it rained hard. I took the cowl cover off. filled the screw holes with silicon and screwd it back down. Problem fixed for a while.

Wow! that's not normal. Sort of like a design flaw from the factory. Check to see if there's a recall.

Yeh that is the fix on the passenger side there is a screw that from the factory has sealent on it which is directly above the fresh air inlet which goes straight into the heater box and if anyone has had the plastic cowl off and did not reseal the screw or stuck the screw in the wrong hole it causes water to enter heater box. Very common problem after a windshield is replaced by someone other than a profectional.
