just a little chevy info needed?

I am in the market for a certified used chevy silverado 1500. I would be interested in knowing what is the general consenses on the 4.8 L V.8

I would also like to know what was the first year of the 5.3 that drops back to 4 cylinders and what is the vin code for that engine?

what is the difference between a Vortex 5.3 and a SFI 5.3 one is earmarked by a Z the other by a T eighth digit of vin code

can anyone reccomend a the best rear end for the 5.3 im thinking 3.23 may help with mpg.

i cant answer this for ya, but we have a GM technichian on this forum, and within the next couple days he'll respond to this i'm sure.

Sorry went home for vacation but i'm back now. the 4.8,5.3, and 6.0 are all the same basic engine just bored and stroked different. I can't tell the diference between the 4.8 and 5.3 just driving them but have not compaired them towing. I own a 2001 extended cab 4x4 5.3 with a 3.73 rear end get 13-15 around town and 17-19 over the road. The diference between the t and z is the z engine came out in 02 or 03 and has the flex fuel compatible and has a alcohol content sensor in the fuel line and most of them do not have a changable fuel filter. The 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 all came out in 1999 in the new body style and are all great engines except for the piston noise on start up that everyone complains of but has no durabilty issues. I can't remeber the other questions but if you still need more help just ask and I'll give you all I can.
