| Question about engine block identification Hi all. I have an 1987 chevy 1/2 ton short box truck. The previous owner told me that when he bought this truck it had a 6 cyl. in it and he rebuilt a 350 and put that into this truck. The question I have is where on these engine blocks can a person look to get the number to tell me what year this engine is and if it is indeed a 350 engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| I can help you out on the block i.d. but not the year or what it came out of. To i.d. the block, when your standing, looking at it from the water pump back,(left bank, drivers side) look behind the right cylinder head,on the casting where the trans bolts to the motor, there will be a casting number imbedded in it which will be 7 digits or so, write down that number, and go to www.mortec.com and look up the block number to find what year they made the castings and what ci. you have. good luck !
