Wind noise on late model '99 Silverado.

My late '99 Silverado regular cab has developed an annoying wind noise around the tops of the doors. I can pull in at the top of the door above the window and the noise will decrease. It's almost as if the tops of the doors are sprung out a little. The gaskets are good and soft and appear to be touching when door is shut. Anybody know a fix for this?

Check your hinges for play. It may not be sitting correctly when it's closed.

Are the hinges adjustable on the late '99 and up models? If so, how do they adjust. It appears they are welded in place.

No they're not adjustable. The plates/brackets are welded but not the pins/bushings. Open your door and lift it on the ends to see if it's moving up and down. If it is, the bushing needs to be replaced. Didn't think anyone would be up this late. Where I am it's 12:45pm.

There's no rock or play in the doors. The doors shut solid with a thud and do not rattle. The wind noise starts at around 30mph and is almost unbearable at 70mph. Both doors do this. My son was the previous owner and said that the noise just started gradually around 60-70k miles. The truck now has just over 100k on the clock.

Hmmmm.....it could only mean that the weather stripping have shrinked. It's thickness has diminished although it's still pliable you might want to replace it.

Guy at the body shop told me to open each door seperately and place a 4x4 in the jamb. Then take a rachet strap and run it from the oposite sides seat brace near the floor to the top of the door (after rolling the window down first) and then cranking the strap in until the top of the door was sprung in just enough to put a little more pressure on the gasket. Sounds like it would work but wanted another opinion on this 1st.

You mean like bending it. Wow! that's kind of extreme just for a weather stripping problem. I recommend going with the replacement option.

My thoughts, exactly. I can see where that might be needed on an accident vehicle, but that's not the issue with my truck.

Bending in the top of the doors will work for awhile but when the gaskets compress in even further you still end up needing to replace them, then you would need to bend the doors back out so its time to replace the gaskets and keep them lubed up with dielectric grease.
