5.7 in a 5.0 truck?

Hey folks. I just bought a '98 GMC C1500. The truck was originally had a 5.0 vortec. The guy I bought it from replaced the 5.0 with a 5.7 long block. The original 5.0 computer and intake are running the new 5.7. Is this kosher? He said the mechanic claimed the controls are the same for the two motors, but I am skeptical. The truck runs okay at low rpm's but starves for air, fuel, or both at the top.

I feel confident the truck at least needs a 5.7 computer. Anybody reckon the intake-fuel injector system is the same, or does that need swapping also? Anything else that needs converting?

I would think they would be different injectors but not sure. If you are intersted I have a computer and intake from a 96 vortec 5.7.

You need the 5.7 ECM. Starving at WOT only right? Regular driving you're okay. It's the same but the calibration is different with a 5.0 ECM and a 5.7 ECM.
