| I am looking at getting a new carb for my 85 K10. The current carb is a quadrajet, I think. What would be a good replacement. I was thinking about getting a edelbrock performer 600 w/manual choke. I am thinking manual choke because there seems to be places where wires were missing from the Q-jet. what are some pros and cons to this. And also if anyone knows where i can get a good aluminum intake that would be helpfull. thanks |

| Both Jegs and Summit have Edelbrock performer intakes for about $150.00, and gaskets run about $25.00. Carb selection is a tough choice, lots to think about. I prefer Holleys, but that is just me. If you purchase the new carb, you will have to change the intake. The Q-jet you are replacing is a spread bore, and the performer 600 is a square bore. BTW, I was just loooking at Jegs, and the 600 manual choke is available as a factory remanufactured unit for only $199.00, instead of $359.00 |

| thanks 75K30. What do you think would be the best choice for a intake for that. Also isnt the Q jet a heat choke or something. and doesn't it have a vaccum line on it. What does all this mean. I am Chevy stupid because i have dealt with nothing but jeeps before i bought my K10. Thanks |

| Holley does make a spreadbore that will fit on your factory intake.

| The Factory intake is all black and nasty. Its probably not even worth cleaning up. There is no telling where this truck has been before i bought it so i figured it wouldn't hurt to upgrade things while the motor is out of the truck. I am getting a rebuilt 350 with a rv cam in it so i figured that the intake would compiment the motor. I want a little extra torque because i am gonna use it for wheelin and low mileage daily driving |

| you can get a preformer intake from oreillys autozone etc.. for 115 bucks. Edlebrock makes a q-jet carb. If it were me I'd go with the no q-jet 600 (1406 i think) with electric choke. All you need is a ground which you can connect to the carb mount bolt. and an ignition switched 12v wire. Very easy to wire rather than cutting a hole and the firewall and dash for the choke cable. Just my Opinion.

| I bought a used Performer 2101 and a Holley 650 spreadbore w/electric choke off of Ebay, and am very happy with the results, this was put on a 400 sbc, I would have to say you would'nt be happy with a manual choke, with the electric, you can start it cold and it will come off by itself when its warmed up. |

| hey claytonfrnk my 2cents is get a holley 650 elect. choke. that's all the fuel you need for that motor and a intake from your local parts store you can buy both from them for around 300 - 400 for both. i would buy new because if someone doesnt pack it right the floats get stuck. i rebuilt my brothers vette motor for him and put that setup on it went from a q-jet to holley and he can not be any happier with what i did to that ride

| I appreciate it guys. I thought the elec choke had to be hooked to your ignition. All you need is a hot wire? |

| yeah but you want it to be switched. if not the choke will stay hot after the key is off and drain your battery. There are several places to tie into it. I tied mine into the main fuse block. You should have an extra acc or ign slot where you can plug a female spade into the fuse block. Just want to make sure it has power when ignition is on and none when ignition is off.
