New guy blew his gasket 5.7 I thought I blew a radiator hose but the leak is on the back of the head looks like it is between the head and the intake manifold. Any one know if it is possible for anti freeze to come out of this area. Thanks

Thanks there is no coolant in the oil but the pressure idea sounds great. Maybe I can do it my garage with my air compressor. I read that the intake gasket on the 5.7 was causing a lot of problems I wonder if this is of them?

For a leak like that there are only two places it could come from. The very front water port, or the rear, each head has two, a front , and a rear. Be very carefull when using your compressor to pressurize your cooling system. Your compressor can pressurize around 120 psi, and that will blow up a radiator, and cause more problems. Pressure testers are small hand pumps, not air compressors. Make sure you mark your distibutor, and / or bring the engine up to TDC, so you can install the dist. correctly when you put it all back together.

Thanks for the great info. So you think I will find a bad gasket when I pull the manifold?

sometimes it is not very obvious, and other times it is plain as day. It is always hard to say, but there is no other place for water to come from on that area. Have you determined that it is between the manifold, and head, and not running down from a bad hose or fitting. If I remember correctly, the truck used a crappy quick connect fitting for the heater hoses. Spend a couple of extra bucks on a quality gasket like the Fel-Pro with elastomeric sealing beads around all of the ports. These seal very well, and will set you back a whopping $15.00. Do make sure that you clean all of the old gasket material away to prevent future leaks.
