so, basiclly your driving down the highway and the instrument cluster thinks the truck is in park with the engine off. i would check your fuses first before you start digging to deep.

try tracy martins, How to diagnose and repair automobile electrical systems. You can get it on amazon for around $16. All other electrical books that I have read are vastly inferior. I have been able to fix all my and my friends electrical problems since reading it. The fact that all the gages do not work means to me that you are either not getting any voltage to the gages or you do not have a ground. Get a good wiring diagram for your truck (that year) and a voltmeter and it should be fairly straightforward.

You might want to cave in and visit a local Chevy dealer and have it diagnosed. It sounds like a power failure or wiring failure. With everything out it should be fairly obvious to a trained GM mechanic. Could be simple. Good luck.
