you make an excellent point and as i said earlier, i have not done homework on it. there are alot of unknown factors at play. will this be the only mod?? is there already mods on it?? what brand and type system is he looking at?? the chero i had had a h pipe design and to me, it was useless. i dont believe i gained anymore power out of the big block with the taller cam. the old nova had duals with turndowns with no cats or mufflers and i think had alot more power than the clevland had. true, that is like comparing apples and oranges. would keeping the factory pipes in fact be the best avenue or would there be something else that can be installed that would be a noticable gain to the engine??

according to what i have read the best gains to be had are intake, cat back, and a power programmer. you have to go with major mods after that. and you start to actually lose power unless you have the capability to change each aspect of the pcm.

Yeah I guess I'm just thinking about what I would do if it were my vehicle. There would be alot more mods

i don't want to take over this thread or anything but it is an exhaust question. i have a 96 gmc 1/2 with teh 5.7 and i want to do duals, do i need to put cats on it or will it be fine and not throw any codes without?

your 96 should have cats on it already. if memory serves me right, your o2 sensors, or sensor, is before the cat so you should be alright.

no no. Stick with a catback system for what you already have and you should be good
