CV axle help I have a 2000 silverado with a 6" suspension lift on it. I keep blowing my cv axles when I go wheeling in it. I need to find a cv axle that is a two piece so that the cv axle can slide back and forth on itself in the middle of the actual cv axle. I know rough country makes an axle like this but they claim that it will only work on their lifts b/c their lifts center the axle from side to side and others don't which really doesn't make any sense to me what he was talking about. So if anyone knows where I can find these axles let me know.

You are breaking your CV's because you are exceeding the angle limits of your stock shafts. Often this occurs when the owner cranks the torsion bars too far to gain added lift. Working the CV's at a great angle will cause them to fail. Another problem could very well be failed bumpstops that limit full extension. If a bumpstop has broken, or been removed, the CV's will over extend, and once again fail. A shaft that has a slip joint will still fail at these angles.

I know i'm exceeding the limits of the stock shafts my torsion bars are cranked up and I plan on turning them back down. The guy that had the truck before me was some pretty boy who never had it in the mud and he said that he had his buddy crank them up before so it would look even higher. The whole purpose of these axles is so you can get those angles w/o breaking the axle.

I have never seen an IFS system work well in extreme (4x4) situations. Too many moving parts to break. Have you considered a SAS (solid axle swap)? Pretty easy to do, and a couple of kits on the market are bolt on.

| You're right about rough country making aftermarket halfshafts that are longer and/or ones that have a slip shaft design (move back and forth). The CV's are stronger and it will stand up to more throttle when fully turned. The other company that makes it also is RCV Unlimited. If RCV does'nt have what you're looking for.......um, maybe you should go with rough country's lift to take advantage of their halfshafts.

Do you have autotrac? AIM has custom cvs also I don"t know about the quality though alot of there stuff is really inexpensive. I have purchased a few suspension parts from them but they were fixed items not movable. Look in any issue of Truckin they have huge ads with alot of stuff look through it carefully it is easy to miss items. Good luck.
