| Keyless entry and alarm on new truck? I just bought my first truck this afternoon. My mechanic friend that i took to check everything out before i bought it says that he thinks the truck might actually have a a keyless entry installed it in but the dealer doesnt know. The mechanic said to take the vin number to a chevy dealer and see if they can look it up and maybe have a remote made up. Figures it would cost about $60.00. I just tried searching http://www.chevrolet.com but couldnt find anything helpful. I'm not gonna have time to run out in person and do this for a few days and i was hoping to find out for sure if the truck has it or not over the internet if possible. Any ideas? |

| keyless remote Your mechanic is correct, any chevy dealer can look up the vin number and determine if your truck has a keyless entry, my 01 S10 did not have a remote when I bought it and I took it to the Chevy dealer parts dept, they looked up vin number and service dept programmed a remote for me. Somewhere around $50. bucks if I remember right. |

| hmm, an actual reply. i had given up on this thread awhile ago, thanks alot. one more queston though. Do i have to buy the remote from the chevy dealer or can i just go find one at a store and take it to them to program? Figured i might be able to find one thats cheaper or i somehow liked better then the ones they have. |

| most of that cost is going to be labor, i wouldn't worry about the cost of the remote.
