engine surging?

91 C1500 with 305. Engine will run fine but at idle it will start to die a little and then catch it self and rev up a little. It almost sounds like an old carbuerated engine that loads up a little. It will continue to do this as long as it is idling. There is no engine light on. I have checked for codes and there is none. Can anyone give me a place to start or a sensor that is possibly doing this. thanx. wnk.

the Throttle position sensor (TPS) or map sensors.

Also meant to say that when you start it up for the first time it doesn't start the surging for approx 3-5 minutes. When it starts, it is on high idle and will run for a few minutes just fine, then the idle comes down to normal and it will run a few more minutes and then it will start surging. thanx. wnk.

Sounds like it runs fine until it warms up. When it warms up, the air fuel mixture is off. I would look at the o2 sensor or even the egr valve...
