Change Engine Oil??

I have a '06 silverado, how does it determine when it is necessary for an oil change when it says "change engine oil" in the display. I just changed the oil about a 1000 miles ago. I just took a trip to the mountains and put about 750 miles on it in two days. It displayed the message when i got back from the trip. I use fully senthetic motor oil and change it about every 2500 miles. should i just reset it and ignore it or what????

How many miles does the truck have? Some of the newer ones have a sensor on the odometer and at certain mileage intervals will remind you of a service needed. Have you seen this light before?

I would look in the owner's manual under your matinence section and see

It has about 13000 miles on it now. It has displayed this message twice before but i was just wondering how it worked because it cant be by milage because i bought it brand new with 0 miles on it and it only has displayed this message about three times since i had it unless it goes by 4000-ish mile intervals.???
I guess im on a different maintenance schedule than the computer is on

On the new vehicles they say they can go longer between changes. trust me it is based on mileage. If you stay on top of it like you are, then you don't need the light. its there for the ones who never remember when to give it a change, like my mom..... hehe....

anyways, you should be fine.

the newer vehicles like what you have makes an estimated average on how the truck is dirven. if you piddle around alot, it might come on at 4000 miles. if you take it and use it really hard like in the mountains or stay in the gas all the time, it will come on earlier than that. it estimates on how many miles, how hard the engine is revved in the course of your oils life and how long it sits at idle.

I use mobil 01 full synthetic in my 04 and change it every 4000 miles. My light has only came on once because I forgot to reset it when I did a service. A dealer tech friend of mine says they will go as long as 15000 sometimes before they tell people to service. The oil might be fine, but the filters are still not capable of 15K. They are only recommended in the 5k range even wix.
