Sound like a ground wire is faulty if the switch is new....

Yep, just happened to my 03 GMC. I have intermittent wipers. Sometimes they turn off and sometimes they just stay on. Started during a snowstorm. I heard it may be corrosion or water in the control module which is located under the cowl on the wiper motor. Haven't checked it out yet though. Quite annoying for 3 yrs old. The electrical issues on this 03 have been numerous.

ongoing GM problem

I too have had this problem the soldering on these circuit boards tends to break.
There are some instructions on the Web as to how to repair them yourself (if you have the time) but it is much quicker to just replace the Wiper Control Module

Yes, I've experienced that one. I can't turn the wiper motor off, it just slows down. The switch, the wires and the electrical power going to the wiper from the engine was the problem according to the mechanic.
