| if the head is the only thing wrong with the motor and 300k miles replace the head and keep on riding. unless you feel like havin more horses under the hood with that little truck and just fill like tricking it out and all

| if money was not that much of an issue, i would look into a different engine. daddy was poor and always works on his stuff. with that many miles, you will end up working on something alot sooner if you went back with the original block. if i had the money, i would go with a newer, maybe not brand new, block and not worry about it for another good while because there is nothing worse than being on the side of the road dead. |

i dunno about that, I have seen some engines sell rebuilt for like fifteen hundred dollars, and with a warranty, and sometimes to rebuild an existing may cost less in parts, will kill you in labor. Even doing it yourself, unles you have a complete machine show and can re-man the heads and re-press the seals, the cost just climbs. I would rather re-place and have peice of mind then rebuild and risk further issues. But that is just me.

| the engines that you are referring to are mainly the ones with DOHC. i have seen some sell for as much as 2 and 3 grand. being a chevy block like this one, i can go to a rebuild shop and get a newly rebuilt one for a 750 with the core. |

| Advance adapters can sell you everything you need from a low mileage take out motor to new crate engines. The swap will be really simple as long as you have the non classic 99 body style. Everything you need is available new or at the wrecking yard. The book values on the 6s are misleading. The 6s bring thousands less here if the trucks are equipped the same. You are better off replacing the motor with what you want then replacing truck you know what you have as far as trans, steering, brakes etc.. |
