truck runs rough

my 97 hd2500 4x4 7.4 runs rough, it will idle good for alittle bit then act like it is going to die, then revs back up again, driving down the highway it surges real bad, ran some seafoam through the engine, seemed to help a little, then acts up again, took it to autozone and put it on the computer, said, manufactures emmision system control, what's ups?

did they give you a code for that problem or just a description? never heard that one before.?

no code, said i will have to take it to a dealer, also it is leaking fuel, somewhere around the intake, taking it to a chevy dealer tomorrow.

wow, hope your ready to fork out alot of money, the dealership will charge around 100 dollars or so just to put it on their computer. heck, it cost me 40 dollars once for a dealership to tell me i needed a new gear box and they didn't even break out any tools. autozone sent you to a dealership because their scanners are only capable of pulling trouble codes, so either that guy is feeding you a bunch of fluff or your autozone has more advanced scanners than the rest of the stores in the company. did you watch them pull the codes?

The fuel rails on the 7.4s are a common item to wear out. My BIL has a 97 with 400K on 1st motor and 80k on second. The truck is a pipeline welding rig and is abused something awful. We have put at least 4 fuel rails in it. They are not cheap, but not too bad to install.
