Governor

Can anyone tell me how the governor system works on a 96 Silverado?
Is it possible to disconnect it and with no deleterious affects?

the governor is the computer chip. buy a performance chip and put it in the comp. and you have to check the specks and everything to make sure it's not running too lean or rich

all a governor is is a setting. stock is set not to let you rev the engine over a set rpm to lessen the chance of blowing an engine up. if you were to try, the ecm would read that it is trying to do something that it is not programed for. there it will shut off fuel and will slow down the engine. same thing for the speed. it limits it to 94 or 95 mph being that in the US, there is nowhere to legally drive that fast. like 03 said, you can get a chip and reprogram the computer to allow for faster speeds and higher engine revolutions.

ever heard of horsepower to weight ratio? you should have seen that coming. the little ricer weighs alot less than your beast.

So you are saying that the rice buckets have a much better power/weight ratio?

yup, a ricer may only have 4 cylinders but they also don't have a heavy frame and suspension to pull around. it also dosn't take alot of money to put a few upgades on the little 4 bangers to get them to really move. just imagine if the ricer had the same engine as you, he'd be at the finish line before you hit second gear.
