Power steering

I am trying to bleed the power steering pump and I need some input. While bleeding the first time I noticed a leak and now that has been fixed. I am in the process of bleeding it again and what I am seeing is that when the wheels are turned to the right no air is present when I turn the wheels to the left I am getting air bubbles. I know it takes awhile to bleed the system but just wanted to see if anyone knew if all the lines are tight could air be getting into the system from somewhere else ex : power steering box, pump itself or could it just be it needs to be bled some more.

The first time I started the truck up after bleeding the system I had a whining sound when I turned the wheels either direction after finding the leak and bleeding only had the noise when I turned the wheels to the right. At that point fluid started to fly out of the resevior.

Anyone know how to tell if the steering box is bad ?

I'm not quite sure how to test the steering box besides it haveing a lot of slack in the steering. If you had a leak in the system you would have fluid spewing out rather then air getting sucked in.

sounds like you just need to keep bleeding them the air bubbles is from when you replaced the lines and air got in. no problem the air is not going to come out all at once. just keep going lock to lock and hold it for no more than 5 seconds on each lock. the more you do it the less the bubbles

I will keep trying. I can still see white foam and air bubbles. If I start the truck fluid does come flying out of the resevior when I turn the steering to the right. It does not do it when I turn to the left. Is it possible to only have air in one side ?

you could have got some debrie stuck in one of the lines. i would remove the lines and blow some compressed air thru them. make sure you use a regulator when doing this, if it is clogged up you don't want to blow the stuff in your face or rupture the line. was the leak you refered to at a connection or in the line itself? the whining sound is normal, it will go away after a short period of driving.

The leak was at an elbow fitting attached to the line. It was not at the located at the pump. I thik I found the problem just want conformation. I was not able to turn the wheels lock to lock because of a stablelizer bar that was installed. Taking it off to see if I can turn the wheels lock to lock.

Ok found out the steering box was bad. I replaced it and once again I am trying to bleed the system. Still getting foam that sprays out the resevior. How long should it take to bleed the system and does anyone know any tricks.
