Tow/haul not working

Hi everyone, I’m new here.
Now for my problem. I have a 01 GMC K1500 and when I hit the tow/haul button nothing happens. The first thing I thought of was a fuse but I didn’t have any luck finding the right one.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome too the site:
You were very right to look for the most obvious. If circuit protection was not obviuos to find. Try the switch. You could have a bad switch. It is easy to remove and check with a small meter, just make sure it changes state when the switch is activated to verify correct operation.

Well, I was playing with the button as I was driving today and I think I found the problem. If I pull the gear shifter toward me and then press the button it will work. Now that tells me I have a broken wire or a bad connection of some sort in the steering column. Does that make sense to you? Anyone else ever have this problem?

Good job, it makes perfect sense. That lead has to flex way down the lever every time you select a gear. It is possible that it has just become fatigued.
