Stroking a 5.3L

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I would like yall's input on the subject matter. I have just aquired a 5.3l from a 2002 silverado for free. It had been sitting in a buddy's yard for about a year and is alittle rusted and dirty. It is a complete motor with heads intake and computer and wiring. I want to bore and stroke the motor. Also, I was wondering if anyone know the specs of the valve springs and cam of the stock 5.3l. I've been searching the net but cant seem to find that info.

thanks

I own a 94 silverado with a 350. Mods are: K&N intake, throtle body spacer, shorty headers, dule exhause with not cats.

Befor yall start sayin that i did not get the motor for free, My buddy owns a garage. A customer came in with a 02 silverado. he had drove his truck into the ditch full of water. The motor broke a rod. His insurance paid for a new motor. My buddy put in the new motor. the insurance company told my buddy to keep the motor. It sat in his yard for a year befor he decided that he didn't want it. The motor is good the heads are good there are no cracks any where.

I think what you mean is the engine has good components. With a broken rod, the engine does not sound too good to me.
At any rate, how much are you planning on stroking this little engine? A great big stroker crank, and a big bore, might net another whopping 25 cubic inches. That would mean you would almost have 350 inches. Why not use the remaining components that are good, and install them on an already larger displacement engine?
I see many guys spending time and money on small engines to try to make them bigger, when they can just go out and buy a bigger engine for less money than it would cost to build the little one.
If you were racing a class that limited you to say 340 cubic inches, then a stroker / big bore combo might be in order, and even justified, but why do that when you can just buy a 350, or 377, or 383, for potentially less money? It would not make sense to invest money in an engine that was obtained for free, if it was going to cost more to build it than it would be to just go out and buy a complete one that was as good, or even better.

spending the time building it is enjoment for me. I don't know too much about building a motor so it is also a learning experience. Also I can get parts for cheaper than normal.

What is the specs of the stock heads and cam and springs on the 5.3?
