95 brake booster

Hey guys,
I believe my brake booster is out. how do I test to make sure its bad before I purchase and install a new one. Plus I hear its a bear to change out the old ones. Something like tearing into your dash and steering column. Can anyone advise.

TIA Marcus.

everyone needs to do it once.

Hey, I had to change the booster on my wife's 99 GMC Jimmy. I suspected it was bad because of the loud air sound under the dash whenever the brakes were on. It is an experience to say the least, but if you give yourself enough time and patience you can do it. Of course the hard part is working thru all the **** under the dash. Good luck!

with the truck off pump the brake until you get a hard pedal. then hold the pedal firmly while you start the truck. when the truck starts the pedal should only drop slightly if the booster is good. also it could be something more simple than the booster, it could be a bad check valve or a collapsed vacuum hose.

the check valve is the L shaped connection on the hose that connects to the booster.
