| if it is obd1 which I think it is you can jump the top right 2 terminals of the plug under the dash together with a paper clip. the check/service engine light will flash a 12 (one blink pause then 2 blinks pause) saying the computer is working then flash any codes after that.

| okay theres no engine light on now and no codes. we just put this tranny in, running lucas in it, everything is right. i suspect idling problems or something other than the tranny. when first cranking it surges then all of a sudden purrs. then going down road all gears shift fine. but in high gear it starts shifting back and forth like its stuck in two gears.but it doesn't do this all the time. if you play with it a little it will act right most of the time and sometimes if you pull over and shut it off wait a few start again sometimes that will fix it? what do i need to do???

| ok, if it idles high when cold the temp switch on the intake is bad, the computer will not show a code for this. the part is lioke 15.00 cheap enough. when the temp switch goes bad, it tells the puter to dump more fuel in the tbi. and when your running doen the highway when more fuel is dumped, it will jump out of overdrive, as far as shifting probs , you should have a speed sensor on the tranny, if it were unplugged the tranny will shift but not to overdrive, to see if it is shifting to overdrive while driving on the highway, lightly tap and hold the brake, not to engage but to trigger the brake switch to pull it out of overdrive, youll hear it change or see it on a tach if you have one, hope this helps |
