Steering Column Housing A few months ago someone tried to steel my 2000 S10 ZR2, they got as far as busting up my steering column because I have an immobilizer in it. After I took my truck into the shop to get fixed I noticed a few things different about it. When I open the driver's side door, without the key in the ignition, a chime comes on... ding, ding, ding... this never happened before. It gets to be pretty annoying if you leave your door open for a few minutes to load something in. The next thing is that I cannot turn my key backwards to use my accessories. I took my truck back to the shop that repaired it and they told me that the door is suposed to do that and my accessories only consist of when you turn the truck off and the radio continues to go until the door opens. I'm pretty sure that's not true, as I was able to use my accessories before and I don't recall ever stepping into a vehicle, with keys in hand, that told me the door was ajar by going ding, ding, ding... forever. Can anybody comment on this

interesting, but 1st i have a 2001 s10 blazer, same difference, ok sounds like a prob in the column, but the only thing thay are saying that is correct, if you are driving, then turn it off the radio and accessories will stay on until a door is open. but the key is still supposed to go back in acc. as far as the chime, i shouldnt do this unless the key is in or the lights are on, you didnt say if you had another column in. might be best to just replace the column instead of searching for the gremlin, but tthe gremlin sounds like the column

After the truck was broken into, it was taken to the shop and they were supposed to put a new one in, which I believe they did, just not sure if it is the right one for the truck. It looks different, and all the problems associated with it. Anyways, I took it back and they said that it is supposed to do those things (I don't thinks so) and they said that they "put another new one in". I think they are trying to cut costs somewhere down the line and are hiding something from me. They are telling me that GM changed how they make the ignition/lock assembly. I just want to hear from other Chevy Truck owners that they can turn the key to accessories and the chime doesn't go ding... ding...ding... everytime they open the door with keys in hand. The shop said that they were going to call the parts supplier and find out if "GM made two assemblies for this vehicle." I also think they are pulling my leg on that one, as I haven't heard from them and it's been a week. I can go on and on and on... I just want my truck back to the way it was before some punk kid tried to take it for a joy ride.

| I have a 90 c2500 and a 93 gmc jimmy. The chevy doesn't chime at all while in accessory on either door and the gmc only chimes on the drivers side door not the passengers. Had to walk outside to check myself

your ignition cylinder has a small plastic plunger in the center, you cant see it unless you pull the cylinder out of column housing,if plunger sticks, the plunger makes contact with a switch in the housing that controls dome lamp timer and key in key out warning chime.you can fix it very easily by removing cylinder ,then pull out small white plastic plunger with needle nose pliers, plunger is probabley bent.plunger is available at dealer,5.00dollar part,to install plunger you just push it into rear of cylinder, put a little dab of lithium grease on plunger before installing.
