Lower Ball Joint

Can the lower ball joint be replaced or does the whole lower control arm have to be replaced. 1995 Z71 4x4 Silverado

yes you can repalce only the ball joint. it should have 4 ribits in it you have to drill out. and the new ones come with nuts and bolts. it is best to take off the a arm and use a drill press makes it much easier. i replaced all of mine because they didn't fill right and stering problems like they where cheaply made

You can replace just the balljoint. It is pressed in though. You can rent a balljoint press to press the old one out an new one in from most auto parts stores.

I could be wrong but I think it is just the upper balljoints that are rivited in.

Must have changed with the body stlye in 99. Your lower is pressed in. can be hammered in and out, but not worth the agrivation. Just be careful of the preload on the torsion bar. support the lower control arm well.

The 99 we have in the shop has the lower pressed in and rivets on the top ball joints.
