Any suggestions appreciated...

This truck only has 57K on it I bought it a couple of weeks ago. When I start it the idle is VERY high. It runs a little rough when there is no load on it and there is an intermitent ping... I don't know if these problems are related. From what I have read almost all electrical/fuel adjustmets are automatically controlled by the processor soooo there doesn't seem to be a way to make adjustments. My only thought was that it might be the idel air control valve... Anyone have any insight on this??

i have a suggestion, but it could be completely wrong,
knock sensor, basically a knck sensor will allow the timing to advance as far as it can, but when it detonates, senses a ping and retards timing. My knock sensor was unplugged for a while, never threw a code and had less power and ran rough, got it hooked up and worked fine. High idle could be lots of things,

just my opinion tho, if someone disagrees, thats fine, i submit!

Knock sensor sounds like a good idea. as for the idle solenoid i'm not sure. Do you have a check/service engine light? Have you tried to pull any codes even if no light. That is where I would start and see if it'll help narrow things down.

high idle could be a vacum leak, the throtle body gasket is usually the problem. spray some carb cleaner around the gasket and if it stutters then you found your problem.

does this truck still have a catalytic converter on it or could it be stopped up? I had a 93 with the 2.8, I removed the cat and had basially the same problems you are describing.

Also spray good around the rear of the intake on both sides. This was a common leaking point on the 4.3.
