2001 s-10 4x4 transfer case problems

have 2001 s-1- 4x4 insta trac. replaced shift motor. old one had water inside , froze, broke teeth off gear reduction unit. non servicable part. got new unit, installed, worked a few times now wont engage . you can hear motor on gear box running, lights flash on dash 4x4 indicator but wont go into4 high or4 low, there is cable that goes to front differential that must lock axles. anybody had same problem? is there an acuator for this front cable? thanks ubee
