| racing a 97 1/2 ton cheyenne i have a 97 1/2 ton long bed cheyenne I would lke to bracket race. It has a 5.0 liter automatic. I know its heavy and not quick, but I would like to race it. i would like some tips on how to make it a consistant runner. Would converting to a carb help? Mainly for tuning ability and simplicity? Right now I would like to keep it street legal although I'm not using it as a daily driver. Eventually I may remove some weight and make it race only. I'm on a seriously tight budget, read... i'm a college student. I would just like to utilize what I have and make low cost changes. Thanks for your help. |

| if your want to get serious about racing, my suggestion is to start from the ground up with a car for strictly racing with exactly what you want in mind. decide on what class you want to race in and go from there

| Bracket racing a stocker is the way to go. It will not post big speed numbers, but you are sitting on a very consistent platform already. Run it the way it is. Dont change the injection system, run it. Vehicles that make little horsepower are very consistent. You will be leaving first most of the time. Leave the truck alone, and practice your reaction time. That is going to be the difference between a win light, and going home early. |
