| 350-motor uses OIL but doesn't leak it Until I get the motor rebuilt, is there an actual additive that helps stop excessive oil use - I think its the valve guide seals. When I first start it up a little blue smoke rumbles out the exhaust when throttling it up. For the next oil change which I haven't done just yet, I bought an larger oil filter (2-quart cap.) and 10-40 and a quart of Power Punch for lube purposes, what else might help keep things together until the rebuild commences? Would a thicker oil also help this? thanks Sam |

| I've heard some good things about Lucas. Don't know if it will help stop the leaking. You sound right saying it is the valve seals. That is the most common cause of smoke at startup.

| The part that caught my attention, was the "smoke when throttling up". Super hard on internal components if you are having to, or wanting to rev the engine up while it is cold. Cold components do not like that very much. a slight increase in the weight of you oil may help some, but often just quiets noisy components down, and there is not too much out there that is going to fix leaks. Sure there are some conditioners that may help some rubber seals, but if it is a gasket, no miracles that I know of. Take it easy on the old girl until you can gather the cash to get her re-built. |

| lucas makes a great oil additive also theres an additive called restore that works well or at least has for me on some smokin rings. SAE 30 seems to help a little keep that thicker vicosity. just a couple thoughts.

| why not just replace the valve seals. afternoon project that is not difficult. stop by and pickup a valve spring compression tool and seals and valve cover gasket. just remember not to drop the valve or lose the locks that go around the valves. |
