1994 Full size Chevy Blazer towing....

Hi, I own a mint 1994 Blazer K5 with a 350 V8, and a towing package on it. I recently purchased a 19 ft travel trailer, and it feels like I'm towing a battleship. I don't drive it in OD while towing, but the tranny still downshifts at the slightest change in grade. Given the relatively light weight of the trailer I should be able to tow this thing no problem.......but it feels heavy. Can the trailer brakes lock up? I have one of those Kelsey electric brake actuators under my dash and it can be adjusted but I don't have the instructions. Any ideas?

I am trying to recall what the Blazers towing capacity was for that year. I believe they had claims of something crazy, like 7000 lbs. (2175 kilo), and for me, that sounds a bit high. The 5.7L V8 only made around 210 hp. and a low 300 ft, lbs of torque.
You mentioned a light weight 19 foot trailer. How much does that thing weigh? A 19 footer has to weigh right around 5000 lbs dry, and if you add water, and food, and everything else that we cram into our trailers, I can assure you that you are pushing the limits. That poor truck is running pretty hard just trying to keep up with a load that is probably a bit too heavy for a vehicle with that short of a wheelbase, and only making the limited power that it is. The transmissions were a very weak link in those right up to 97. I think you are asking for trouble towing that much trailer.
Just an opinion.....

not to mention its a 94, little bit of common sense that the older the truck, the less towing power its actually gonna have. we have a 94 diesel, meant for pulling, previous owner pulled all the time with it, and now its struggling a bit, age is just gonna effect it some

Thanks guys, wow do I feel like a moron. The trailer is actually only a dry weight of 3674 lbs. The GVWR is 6000. I was thinking of changing the rear shocks, they are originals, not leaking or anything but may be help with the extra load. What do you recommend?
