2002 HD overheating while towing camper

Help!

I own a 2002 Chevy HD 6.0 xteded cab. The truck is equiped with a tow package, tranny cooler etc. Still the engine overheats (gage pegs warning lights flash)when towing my 25 foot travel trailer up hills. While overheating, the tranny temp never moves. A new thermostat has been installed and nothing changed. Normal driving, temp never moves. Is this not enough motor for this application or is something else wrong?

That thing should pull 5600 lbs. like nothing. Are you 100% confident that the sending unit is accurate?
How new is the t-stat? When was the last time the coling system was flushed? Could have a plugged up radiator, and just not keeping up with the demands of the additional load.

I feel the same, that this thing should be able to pull a house.
T-stat 1 year old, radiator flushed same time. Not quite sure about what sending unit your talking about. Could tranny be the problem?

highly unlikely that the trans temp is transfering enough heat to cause the engine to overheat.
Is the radiator fairly clean, or is it full of bugs and other junk?
Is the airflow restricted by any off road lights or anything like that?
The sending unit I was refering to, is the temp. sending unit. This is what tells you how hot you are running. It could be that is is not telling you the truth

could be the torque converter... the stator might be malfunctioning in there
