Fuel Pressure Regulator

96 1500 5.0L

Has anyone done their fuel pressure regulator? I just want to gage how difficult it is to replace.

Is there anything that I need to know before tearing down and /or after installation?

I've never changed one but one word of advise would be to cycle you pump a couple times after replacing to make sure all air is out of the system.

96 is that still the throttle body tbi220 i think is what they call it. The one that is basically a fuel injected carb? If so you remove the valve body on it and replace the diaphram. Cost like $50 from the parts store comes with new gasket.

Your fuel pressure regulator is in the injector "spider" body beneath the upper plenum. If you're not so mechanically inclined it's going to be tough for you to do without creating new problems. You'll need a upper plenum seal kit also.

When and if you do ...do it. Be careful removing the fuel lines from the injector body as the O-rings will likely come out with the line and could get lost (this will hold up your project till you can get new ones) and there are also plastic spacers between the two seals on each line.

there's a ten mm bolt holding the fuel lines to the lower intake at the rear of the lines also which is hard to see and will make moving them out of the way impossible without bending them (which will make re-installing them hard too).

Use vasoline or some sort of lube in the sealing area of the upper plenum where the injector body goes through the upper plenum, or the large oval seal will cut or not seat correctly, which will cause a large vacuum leak and hi/rough idle when you're done too.

Good luck....I've done hundreds of these as a Master GM tech for the past 17 years. It's actually a easy job as long as you're equipped with the right parts and the right tools.

They are known to fail and leak internally..causing hard starts, rich running condition and off idle light throttle misfire in cyls, 5, 7, 8.

I have heard that when they are bad they cause hard starts. Is hard stating usual with the regulator being bad?
I dont have starting problems.

I took it to another shop and they told me that the Cat was the problem.

Is there a test to perform on the regulator to check it?

I looked up replacing the pressure regulator and it doesnt seem hard IF you have the right tools.

THANKS NCROADRACER!!!!!!
