1988 Chevy Suburban Transmission Problem

I have a 1988 Chevy Suburban 3/4 ton, with a 350. It had a blown head gasket which blew my engine, and this weekend we swapped it out with another 350, and now I have bad transmission problems. Before we swapped, it ran like a champ.

When we start from a dead stop it's fine, but once it starts to take second gear it reves very high and slams into it. It BARELY takes 3rd and once it gets to 3rd gear it slips immediatly back out. It wont even get up to 4rth. I didnt have problems before and im completely stumped as to what is going on, if anyone has any suggestions, or knows what the problem is please let me know! Thank you!

sounds like the kick down cable wasnt hooked back up or adjusted properly. That will do that! believe me been there.

keep it simple at first.... check the linkage and fluid level before anything

Check the deten cable first. If it is out of adjustment it can act all crazy.

Here is another thought though if that doesnt work.

Did you leave the torque convertor and the tranny in the truck when swapping motors? Not saying this is the case but I have seen it a few times. When installing the new motor if it wasnt lined up when stabbing it can push the torque convertor too far into the tranny damaging the pump.

I know my post is all over the place. sorry.
