a new truck? mixxing up the pimary or secondary shoes, no lubrication, e brake cable stretched, or a wheel cylinder is bad. does this help?

Rear brakes stuck!

I'll check it out! The mechanics put on 3 sets of shoes, thought the first one's were bad (rivets)? Starts out OK then after some driveing - backing ect. started locking up again! How about just disconnecting the emergency brake? to narrow it down? Don't use it anyway! Thanks for your reply! Kansaskeith

Are they hydraulic? Have you replaced your Master Cylinder? Brake Booster?

if they still use shoes I'm thinking the auto adjusters are the problem. if they keep tightening whenever you back up that will cause them to lock up.

Did you just replace the shoes or all the hardware, springs, keepers etc?

if it is throwing the shoes i would check the drums. if the drums have grooves in them they will act like threads and pull the shoes off the retaining pins and return springs. did the mechanic turn the drums? he may have turned them on to high of a speed and created this problem. also lock up can be caused by contaminated shoes. i would check your axle seals for leaks and also check your wheel cylinder for leaks.

if your E-brake was siezed up you would not be able to get the drum back on with the new shoes installed. i had that problem with a ford ranger i worked on. i doubt the E-brake is your problem.

when did this problem occur, before or after the mech. touched them?
