| Blown Fuse a buddy of mine has a 1998 dodge 1500 5.9l 360 and a few days ago we were hardwiring his cb to his 12 volt power outlet. we spliced into the lines and everything worked fine. then we finished everything up and realized that his radio and dome lights and backup lights didnt work. we found out that the IOD fuse had blown and we replaced it. it was fine for a little bit and then the next day he came out and it was blown. now it immediately blows when he puts one in. the power outlet is not on the IOD fuse because the outlet works if the fuse is blown but nothing else. we removed the radio in the process of installing the cb but did not remove the wires to the radio. also the IOD fuse was locked down tighter than fort knox in the fuse compartment and anyone know why. also please help with what to do with the blown fuse and how to fix it. thanks a bunch guys |

| common ground? does the CB have it's own ground or did you splice into a existing ground wire?

| we spliced into the ground. however the fact that the cb still works when the fuse is blown leads me to believe that it is not causing the problem. also, not that it matters but the cb does have an inline fuse. |

| Fuses don't blow from ground side shorts like a GFI would. Since you know this follows the install of CB, go looking for crushed/pinched wires in that area. In particular any place wires get near any sharp edges. Where you can't see feel for any "bubbling" in insulation or nicks. |
