Unhappy AutoTransmission wont shift

Hey all! I am a newbie to this forum although I visit Redpower forum regularly. My '95 dually with auto sudenly lost the ability to up-shift into "high gear" On a fully charged pair of batteries it works fine for about 2 miles. Then then the check engine light comes on, I can hear chattering from the relays under the hood, finally the tach and feul gauges goes out and the overdrive switch on the dash stops functioning. Is this an ECU problem, relay problem, or transmission problem? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! RR

Thanks 87S. Both batteries are about a year old but I will load test them tomorrow. I just replaced the alternator as the old one had a cracked housing. I neglected to say that my dually has a Cummins (and a PCM, not an ECU).

Isn't the PCM for diesels and the ECU for fuel engines? They run different timming, and different sensors all together, so the computers would be different right?

That is my understanding (PCM = diesel). New alternator seems to have done the trick. I was loosing voltage causing my dash and shifting problems. So far so good! Thanks for all your help. RR
