97 Dakota Sport Start up Problem

I have a 97 Dakota Sport. When I turn the ignition it sound like it wasnts to turn over but doesnt. If I press on the gas it will start and then turn off. If I start it in nutral and the put it into drive it runs just fine.

Before I start spending to troubleshoot ....any thoughts or experience this as well ???

When you say runs fine, does it shift fine, and hold its own when you stop? Does it stall at traffic lights and such? Does if buck in reverse?

Yes, it runs with no problems, shifts fine, no bucking, no stalling. Just an issue on and off when you start it.

Hmmmm, ok. rules out what I was thinking then. that is a weird problem to have. I have thought about this and thought about it, even went to the lengths of researching it for ya since it was interesting. I would not know where to start with out looking at it. The only answer I got from a friend who works in the service department at my job was that perhaps the TC was bad, but then the shifting would be crappy too. There are others on here that may now with out looking at the truck, but my suggestion is take it in. That was the answer I was getting, they need to see it. It is probably something really dumb, like a TPS sensor or something, or even an obstruction(sp?) in the fuel line, but again, those would present themselves in other ways too. Sorry bud, I wish I could help more.
