| Dodge 3500 Diesel Dually I am getting ready to enter RV life. Can anybody give me input on a Dodge 3500 6.7 Diesel, Dually. It says in the literature that it will only pull 15,700 lbs. The toy hauler I am getting has a gross capability of 18,000 lbs and a fifth wheel weight of 3,050 lbs. What if anthing would I need to do to make this truck work and what kind of mileage do these vehicles get towing and around town driving. I hate to get a Ford F450 due to the mileage of 7-10 towing and 10-12 around town. Any help would be of service. Thanks |

| any one ton vehicle will pull that trailer. Ford /GM /Dodge. The biggest thing to look at is the pin/hitch weight. IMO the main reasing they rate those truck to pull that little is becuase of the GVWR. anything over 26000 pounds requires a cdl (even if it is your personal truck and trailer). Hope this helps.

| There is quite a bit of difference between your truck and mine, assuming yours is a late model truck. Anyway, my 98 dually is a 4x4, 12 valve Cummins. I get about 16 mpg in mixed town and fwy driving. If I pull my 35' fith wheel it gets 10 to 11 on the open road. I expect that the current technology will have yours do as well, maybe better. |

| dodge makes a 4500 now and 5500, but its only a cab and chasis, but pulls 16,500lbs and 19,500lbs respectivley and have a factory exhaust brake. they seem to be manual trans only, no listings for fuel economy, ford 450 pulls 16,000lbs and the 550 19,000, the ford doesn`t have an exhaust brake but is available with an automatic, it however isn`t rated for 19,000lbs, i think its only rated for 17 950 but i couldn`t get an exact number. if you don`t mind a cab and chassis i`d get the big dodge, i`d list the gm specs but i don`t know anybody who would wanna drive a truck the size of a mini peterbuilt when not connected to the trailer! happy towing!! |
