ABS/Brake light constantly on

The ABS light has been on, and the red brake light just came on today. it came on once, then went off, and now its constantly on along with the amber abs. the brakes work great though. I notice there's a small leak near the front right tire. my dad thought it was transmission fluid, but then I pointed out the brake lights. could it be brake fluid? do I have reason to worry about driving it like this?

if abs light is on you still have brakes just no anti lock but be shure to check out the leak asap.

best to my memory, abs light has codes just like engine codes. they can be checked. definitely check out the leak. there aint nothing worse than the inability to stop your truck. that, and it aint safe.

I checked the brake fluid; it's full. I don't think it's brake fluid anymore.. I smelled it, and I'm thinking it's water leaking from a hose coming from the radiator (but the radiator is full too).

But that still doesn't explain why the ABS/brake lights are on. ?!

Also I found out the battery is being held in place by a ratty old bungee cord. lmao...

you will need to have the codes scanned before you can even try to solve the problem. the sad part is, parts stores aren't able to scan for those codes, so you will need to take it to a shop.

I ordered a code scanner from ebay a little while ago, will that do it? It's the kind that'll tell you what the error code means right on the gizmo.

got a link to it, some are just designed to read SES lights and don't have the ability to communicate with other systems, like the ABS, air bag, etc.

hey I just tried to type in the name of the company and came up with nothing. it might be a internet scam or just no one has ever heard of them. anyway I'd suggest looking up a few name brand code scanners or at least one that is sold in stores
