problem starting

i have a 01 ram 1500 with a 5.2 and when the truck is cold i have to try and crank it 2 or 3 times befor it will fire. if i hit the gas it will start the first or second time what is the problem

when have if ever have you replaced the fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires??

I'm having the same problem with my 02 silverado. My fuel pumps bad. If you haven't changed the filter it can destroy your fuel pump. Theres a trick my friend showed me that will help you, but won't solve your problem. When you get in, turn the key all the way to the on position but don't crank it. You'll probably hear your pump "humming". Wait until it quits humming. Turn it off and then back to the on position and wait for it to hum again. After its done crank it and it should start right up. It's been working for me. I'm waiting for the money to replace my pump, i hear its pretty costly. Somewhere around 300 to 400 bucks. Hope I helped.

if all you need is the pump and stainer screen its not tooo costly. the best way to get to the pump is to lift the eh' bed up [you need help] not sure about spanner wrench for chevy might not need one.... g,luck some some dough

Yeah i heard from everyone that's replaced theirs that liftin the bed is the best way to go.
