1998 Dakota Shifting problem

I just bought a 1998 dakota sport pickup.When I start it up and take off driving it will not shift out of low gear for about a half mile or so. After it does shift it is fine, stop at light,stop sign,what ever it will shift fine,UNTIL I turn it off then the process starts agian.It will run fine untill it is shut off.Any ideas? Thanks

yeah i got an idea.... It's a Dodge...

also, is it automatic? or manual? cause if its manual the i can def. tell u what the problem is. lol

check the solenoid connector on the transmission if its automatic
make sure it is all the way on the solenoid and there is no dirt or mud on the contacts

buddy had the same problem. his was the pressure sensor inside the valve body. $450 at the shop. $50 for the part.

drop the pan, drop the valvebody, replace..

buy new tools or alot of beer with the money saved.
