1988 Jeep Commanche

Hey guys, I know this isnt a Dodge but it is a Chrysler product.
Anyways I have the opportunity to trade my car to my dad for his 88' Jeep Commanche shortbox. It has the BA-10 4 speed transmission and 4.0 I-6 engine. It has roughly 80,xxx original miles on it. He got it from the original owner who always had it serviced by the Jeep dealer. (Never did anything to it himself). I was wondering if this would be a good deal? It is a 2wd but sits at the same height as a 4wd. I think it has the metric tonne package? Also would a suspension lift for a 4wd Cherokee fit it? The Commanche 2wd has a solid tube axle up front. It looks identical to the 4wd setup, minus the differential and transfer case. Were these trucks any good? I dont know a whole lot about Jeep.

what kinda car you got to trade him..... and that 4.0L I6 is a hoss.... esp if its fuel injected. and i THINK it is bc i'm thinkin that it was a 4.2L I6 that was carb rthat was replaced by the 4.0, but i wasnt aware of the 4.0 being out until either 90 or 91. not positive though. but the 4.0 is a good solid tough engine. what kind of shape is the truck in?

You know, you just do not see enough of those Commanche's on the road. I think those were some cool trucks... appearently not a big hit with Jeep though. I agree with camino here, the motor is strong and has a great rep with the company. I do not know about the lift though, I am sure you could find a 2wd lift for it though, jeep had everything availible. What are you trading for it? Just wanna make sure it is a fari deal... know what I mean? If it is the Tempo, I say GO FOR IT!!!!!!! Jeep would rock the ford anywayd... but was just wondering.

i would trade it. those jeeps with the 4.0 you can not beat them. i know a guy that had one with 500k and still ran when he sold it and it is still running today with no problems.
