1999 dodge diesel 2500 abs light

Well I just bought the truck. It has 172,000 miles on it and has abs light and e brake light on. Took it to the shop to have then scan it and they told me that my abs controller was bad. I bought a used abs controller off ebay and put it in but did not fix the light problems. Sometimes the lights are off and then I will shut the truck off and when I start it back up the lights are back on. I just put the old abs controller back in it now but I did notice on the barcodes on the front on the controller they have different numbers. Is this a part number or is it just a serial number that will be different for each controller? Thanks

the numbers for the bar code are probably the serail number. Have you looked at the abs sensor (also vehicle speed sensor). it is located on the rearend.

I have not looked at that stuff. What am I looking for when I do look at it? I just now the guy the scaned it told me my box was bad and I just figured if it was somthing eles that was bad the scaner would have said so.

I'm not really sure how you could test the abs/vss sensor. But if you are having tranny problems as well I would think that is the problem. The vss is part of what tells the tranny when to shift. I don't want to tell you to throw parts at it but I would change it out and see what happens.

as far as the people scanning it, they were probably expecting you to tell them to replace the box so they could make money off of you. I would take it to another dealer/shop and get a second opinion.

well I found out my trans problem today it was a bad battery. I was thinking they didnt scan my abs system right and now wasted all the money already. I just was wondering if there was any common problem when this stuff happens but I will just find another shop to scan my abs light. Thanks for the help.

abs and brake light

I believe mrjohnwayne is right about the speed sensor on the rear end. It runs about $54 after tax. sensor is located on the top of the rear end. I had the same thing happen several weeks ago and I changed it out, no more abs light now.
