oil pressure readings 01 ram1500

I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and the oil pressure reads around 50 to 60 when first started up then goes down to around 35 to 40. Now when i am driving say on the highway it reads around that 50 range and may drop down when i am not excelerating,is that normal? The reason i am asking my buddy has a 99 and his stays around 35 to 40 all the time.

might be using different grade of oil. i would not worry about it to much until it starts getting around the 20 mark. my 99 gets the same readings yours does.

as long as there is some kind of pressure your ok. you budy may have a weeak pump or some other contributing factor. its better to have high oil pressure then no oil pressure.

my 97 Chevy used to read at 40 psi no matter what. when i changed the oil pressure switch, it now sits at 65-70 psi and moves slightly with the RPM's.
