Question 1999 dodge ram 3500

I have a 1999 dodge ran 3500 4x4 dually with a 5.9 cummins I found a plug in that you would plug into a wall outlet in the front just to the right of the passanger headlight if you r looking at the front of the truck and can not figure out what it goes to. does anyone have a clue what it is for?

YUP... block heater. Keeps the block from freezing in the winter.

so I am guessing the only time you need it would be up north when it is snowing cause i know you dont need it down here in florida.

Block heaters are nice in the north that is for darn sure. When you do not have one you resort to wrapping your frontend with a blanket and putting a drop light under the hood.

Hammer

Yeah basically. If the outside ambient temperature never drops below 30 degrees for an extended period of time, then you will not need it. But manufacterers will not build climate regualted vehicles... meaning can onlybe purchased and owned south of such and such state...etc... WITH the exception of California, they simply have their own world of laws for vehicles....LOL....
