4.7Liter 5 speed ?????

I am looking at purchasing a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 regular cab short bed with the 4.7L withe 5 spd manual and i just wanted to know since i am usally a chevy guy but i am getting a real good deal, i wanted to know how the power will be on this truck or will i be dissapointed because i have a 5.3l chevy right now would the 4.7 be a big downgrade for me power wise or not?

Really it depends on what your using it for. But I had a 4.7 for nearly 5 years and it was a great motor with plenty of power. I would worry more about the drive line. Such as the transmission. Which in my opinion is Dodges weaker point rather than the engines.

I agree with that comment. Until the redesign in 2005ish Dodge's trannys were not known to last forever... when they ran, they held their own, but were not durable.... but every manufacterer has their weak points.

it would hold up that long I would hope for sure.... the real issues with dodge's trannys won't surface until about the 150k range.... and yeah., I have seen issues with the manuals too, not as many, but some.

I am a true Mopar fan. But in honesty, since the truck is 4X4 I would still steer clear of it. I would buy it if it were 2 wheel.
