1999 Dodge problems starting

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2. It was shutting off in the middle of driving. I thought maybe alternator, loose battery terminal so I replaced battery terminals and alternator (the battery is new). I drove about 4 miles to the gas station and truck wouldn't start. It makes a slow rurr...rurr..rurr when I turn the key but doesn't turn over. A couple hours later I went back to the gas station and it started so I drove it home and its been sitting in the driveway. Any suggestions?

have you made sure that your ground connections, not on the battery, are good and tight?? the slow start would indicate low voltage or bad connection so you have the right idea there. the battery might be new but you might want to have it tested to mark that off the possibilities list.

bradrhale thank you. I am 18 and this is my first vehicle so I'm learning as I go. Can I buy something to test it with myself or do I have to bring it to a shop? I've been ripped off in the past bringing it to a shop. I'd like to try to do as much as possible myself with the help of this forum.

no problem. you can buy a load tester. i think autozone will test a battery for free. i know they test alt and starters for free. that is what i would do in your case.
when it died in traffic, did it just shut off or did it start missing really bad and then die??
